Winter in the Catskills… Find joy in winter at Spillian, where you can imagine past what you think is possible.

Spillian has been a place of imagining, of joy, of growth, of love, and laughter over the summer. By the end of 2017, we’ll have hosted thousands of people for inspired workshops, music festivals, amazing food, and a total of twenty-six weddings!

As we begin our fifth year as a place bringing imagination and possibility to life for people, we are so excited to be reaching out to more and more visitors, each bringing their own kind of magic to what Spillian is making.

Winter is a very special time in the Catskills. It echoes winters of another era, with snow that envelopes these mountains into a particular kind of intimate wonder. Skiing, show shoeing, snow board, ice climbing, winter hiking are invitations into a dance with snow and cold and the beauty of spare landscapes, and into our own sense of what’s possible.

A couple of snippets of poetry for you…

First, an invitation…come and find snow before it becomes memory!

A bit of Snow in the Morning
by Cathy Song

In the morning they saw snow on the mountain,

waking as if to another country,
They wanted to get there before the snow melted,
before it vanished like a memory.

And then, a little taste of an all out celebration of the wonders of a snow storm…

The Snow Storm
By Ralph Waldo Emerson

Announced by all the trumpets of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o’er the fields,
Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air
Hides hills and woods, the river and the heaven,
And veils the farm-house at the garden’s end.
The sled and traveller stopped, the courier’s feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit
Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of Storm.

Won’t you come and join us at the radiant fireplace in your own tumultuous privacy?
